The crest of the University of Alabama includes the school’s nickname, “Crimson Tide”, a reference to the powerful sweep of an Alabama football team, which, in defeating Auburn in 1907, fought so resolutely that their uniforms stained red with Alabama clay, seemed a tide overwhelming the Auburn side. The rallying cry for Alabama’s fans since then has been, “Roll Tide”.
Alabama isn’t just about football; it’s a large research university providing what it calls the capstone of public education in the state. Many of its programs are highly regarded and its preparation for the professions is impressive and widely admired.
