I’m stunned that Fairfield is not mentioned in the same breath as Georgetown or Villanova. As is the case in almost every other conversation about national reputation, it probably has something to do with championship seasons and impact sports at the Division I level. Fairfield is one of the nation’s twenty-eight Jesuit universities (like Georgetown and Villanova) and does play at the Division I level. It is also an emerging pre-professional power in the Northeast, a wonderfully balanced and spirited college, and a great option for the student who wants all the advantages of a university in a relatively small (3500 students) setting. In fact, Fairfield is actually much closer in size and “vibe” to Bucknell, Richmond, and Lehigh than it is to Villanova.
